David Cheng: Massage Therapist
David Cheng has practiced muscular therapy in the United States for over 15 years. During this time, he has integrated the principles of traditional Chinese medicine with Western medicine, thereby developing his own unique approach to muscular therapy.
David follows the tenets of Chinese medicine, in which every illness is evaluated as a holistic body-mind experience. When treating clients, David incorporates his knowledge of both exercise physiology as understood by modern Western medicine and the ancient Chinese science of acupuncture points and energetic meridian lines. Anyone can benefit from Davids training in sports medicine, exercise physiology and traditional Chinese medicine.
Since David opened his current muscular therapy clinic at Porter Square in 1998, his professional reputation has grown steadily. His clientele now truly spans all walks of life: from harried students and busy homemakers to international businessmen and world-class entertainers. His following of devoted clients attests to his perceptive diagnosis and effective treatment of a wide array of physical problems that often have unrealized psychological components.
Whether a client seeks relief from backache or burnout, Davids intuitive integrated approach to muscular therapy leads to an improved sense of well-being that promotes healing on many levels.
Educational Background and Work Experience:
Originally from mainland China, David graduated in 1982 with a bachelors degree in sports medicine from Shenyang Institute of Physical Education, where traditional Chinese medicine was emphasized in the curriculum and Chinese massage and physiotherapy were extensively taught. His diligence at school earned him the opportunity to enroll in the Advanced Study of Sports Medicine at Chinas renowned Beijing Institute of Physical Education from 1982 to 1983.
In 1987, David came to the United States to study clinical exercise physiology at Northeastern University in Boston and graduated with a masters degree. After graduation, he worked for various hospitals and clinics, including New England Rehabilitation Hospital, Newton-Wellesley Hospital and BackPlus Inc., as an exercise physiologist, an exercise therapist and a muscular therapist.
